Fort Payne

Fort Payne is associated with interesting geological formations and Indian history, the latter embodied in the nearby Cherokee town of Willston, established in 1779.

The town of Fort Payne was established in the late 19th century around the stockade which held the Cherokees prior to their forced westward migration on the Trail of Tears.
