GanadoThe Spanish called this place Pueblo Colorado ("Red House") after a nearby Anasazi ruin. The name later changed to Ganado, honoring one of the great Navajo chiefs, Ganado Mucho, or "Big Water Clansman," a signer of the treaty of June 1868 that returned the Navajo lands. A presbyterian mission founded here in 1901 provided the Navajo with a school and hospital. |
