SpringervilleSpringerville was named for merchant Henry Springer, who unwittingly extended credit to most of the unsavory characters in Round Valley and eventually went broke. The townsite was originally called Omer by the Mormons who settled here. Eventually they relocated to Eagar, and the name was changed to Springerville. In 1928 the National Old Trails Association of the Daughters of the American Revolution dedicated twelve statues of the "Madonna of the Trail," depicting the hardy but largely unsung pioneer women who "Wested" in the nineteenth century. One of these 18-foot statues is in the middle of town. |
