Lake MeadLake Mead is the largest man made lake in the United States of America: 110 miles long, 500 feet deep, 822 miles of shoreline, and 28.5 million acre-feet of water (that's just over nine trillion gallons). The reservoir can store two year's worth of Colorado River water, irrigates two and a quarter million acres of land in the U.S. and Mexico, and supplies water for over 14 million people. Hoover Dam paid back the investment to build it, with accured interest, by 1987. |
