Lynchburg

Lynchburg is virtually synonymous with Jack Daniel, who built a distillery next to Cave Spring in the 1860s. Along with the distillery, Miss Mary Bobo's Boarding House on Main Street has been a Lynchburg landmark since it opened in 1908. For 77 years Miss Bobo won regional acclaim for her bountiful noontime meal attended by such guests as Jack Daniel and other prominent residents.

Jack Daniel's Distillery (1/4 mi NE on TN 55) is the nation's oldest registered distillery. Visitors can observe every step of the sour mash whiskey making art, including Jack Daniel's charcoal-mellowing process, which has been used at this distillery for more than a century. Guided tours last about 70 minutes and involve extensive walking and stairs. Worth the trip. Daily 8-4 Free ph: 615/759-4221
