Four American generals - George Washington, Robert E. Lee, Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson and George C. Marshall - have played major roles in Lexington. The two Confederate heroes have homes and are buried in town.

Of scenic interest is Goshen Pass Natural Area, 15 miles northwest on SR 39. Here the southwest face of Little North Mountain drops sharply from 3,600 feet to the Maury River, about 1,800 ft below.
