Listed on the National Register of Historic Neighborhoods, Automobile Alley, once known for its abundance of car dealerships, is now an upscale, urban district featuring one-of-a-kind restaurants, unique shops and more.

But there’s still plenty of evidence of the area’s past, with both original and vintage neon signs featuring Buick, Packard and plenty of other well-known names. Establishments like Packard’s New American Kitchen keep the tradition going with photos and memorabilia (not to mention monikers) that harken to the building’s former life. Broadway 10 and Red PrimSteak, two of the area’s most popular steakhouses, are both situated in former Buick dealerships.

Unique shopping abounds as well. Score a one-of-a-kind, globally sourced piece from Sara Kate Studios; browse vintage lookalike bikes at Schlegel Bicycles; peruse the hand-bottled varietals at Waters Edge Winery; and get lost amongst the overwhelmingly awesome finds at Plenty Mercantile.

9th Street is a special area of Automobile Alley, essentially a district within a district. Here, uniqueness abounds. Admire the colorful exterior of The Womb, the experimental art gallery fronted by The Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne; pose for a selfie in front of the expansive mural known as the 9th St. Braid; shop for hand-poured artisan soy candles in the refurbished shipping container called OKcollective; or enjoy a shaved ice treat in the homey atmosphere of Katiebug’s Sips & Sweets.
