Chisholm Trail Heritage Center & Garis Gallery of the American West

The mission of the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center & Garis Gallery of the American West is to celebrate and perpetuate the history, art and culture of the Chisholm Trail, the American cowboy and the American West. Located in Duncan, Oklahoma, the museum features interactive adventures, galleries and traveling national exhibits. A must-see is the “On the Chisholm Trail” bronze sculpture, which earned the distinction of being one of Oklahoma Magazine’s Top 20 Objects That Shape Oklahoma. Created by Paul Moore, the piece spans nearly 35 feet and stands 15 feet tall as a tribute to the cowboys and the Chisholm Trail.

In 2018, “Official Best of America” designated the Heritage Center a “Best Heritage Attraction.” Before that, in 2016, True West Magazine awarded the Heritage Center the special distinction of one of the Top 10 Western Museums in the USA, an accolade it has earned twice now.

In the Experience Theater, you can smell the spring wildflowers on an Oklahoma prairie and feel the wind on your face as a storm rages around you. If you enjoy fine art, the Garis Gallery of the American West has an exceptional collection of work by artists such as Frederick Remington, Charles Russell, Allan Houser and George Catlin. In addition to the permanent collection, new exhibits are featured every few months.

The Chisholm Trail Heritage Center hosts classes, gatherings and events throughout the year that are fun and engaging for all ages. Check out the full schedule to plan your trip!
