Canterbury Christmas

at Civic Center Music Hall

Canterbury Christmas will take you to a place where few choral groups can go with baroque composer George Frideric Handel’s classic piece, “Messiah.” Members of the Oklahoma City Philharmonic will also join in this special concert!

The current “Messiah” trend is to go purist, using Handel’s modest original baroque orchestrations. At the opposite end of the spectrum lies an arrangement written in 1957 that is incredibly grandiose; the stage is full of musicians and the impact is unforgettable. Canterbury will feature the famed 1957 arrangement by Eugene Goosens with instruments only seen in large, romantic orchestras: two harps, four horns and a full wind section.

The text in this version is amplified by the full orchestra; whether it’s the gentle melody of the opening words “Comfort ye,” or the sheer invigorating “Hallelujah” chorus, this concert will be inspiring!

Canterbury will host its annual Holiday Reception after the concert in the Civic Center lobby. The reception includes home-baked cookies from their adult chorus and punch. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be in attendance for photos.

Tickets start at just $15 and are available here.
