First up on this triple bill production is Serenade, considered a milestone in the history of dance. It’s the first original ballet by George Balanchine, one of the 20th century’s most prominent choreographers and co-founder of the New York City Ballet, where he served as Artistic Director for more than 35 years.
Next is the world premiere of Our Private Rooms, an abstract contemporary piece by Oklahoma City Ballet Artistic Director Robert Mills. In recent years, Mills has created popular story ballets like Beauty and the Beast and Romeo and Juliet.
Finally, the main event: Rodeo, world-famous dancer and choreographer Agnes de Mille’s most beloved and most frequently presented ballet. With an iconic score by Aaron Copland, Rodeo had its world premiere with the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo at the Metropolitan Opera House on October 16, 1942. This will be the first time it has been presented in Oklahoma City in 30 years.
