Downtown OKC’s Myriad Botanical Gardens are welcoming summer with a Summer Solstice Celebration on the longest day of the year. Capture the essence of the season by creating flower crowns and butterfly wings while enjoying lavender cookies and cupcakes from Green Goodies. Delicious blackberries from a local berry farm will be available alongside a number of food vendors and free McAlester’s tea to the first 200 guests!
There are two opportunities for Hula Hoop classes in the Gardens. Register for the 7 p.m. class here and the 8 p.m. class here. For fun ways to stay hydrated this summer, take advantage of the Infused Waters Workshop, 7:30-8:30 p.m. A free yoga session also kicks off at 7:30 p.m. if you’d like to use your extra daylight hours to exercise and realign.
Keep the momentum going with the Full Moon Bike Ride and Run. OK Runner leads the 5K run through downtown at 8 p.m. before the leisurely one-hour bike ride mapped out by Schlegel Bicycles at 8:30 p.m. Ride OKC will have bikes available for people of all ages to rent, bring lights and a helmet! Participation costs $5, and you can pay and complete your liability waiver in advance. Safety workshops begin 15 minutes prior to start time.
Face painters, candle and paper bag station, a community weaving loom and an acoustic performance by Aaron Newman add to the day’s festivities. Entrance into the Celebration is free, but you can register for select activities ahead of time here.
