Intent to Deceive: Fakes and Forgeries in the Art World

at Oklahoma City Museum of Art

This is a truly unique exhibit featuring more than 60 works by some of the world’s most notorious con artists, illuminating their dubious legacies and examining how their talents, charm, and audacity beguiled the art world of the twentieth century through the present day.

See if you can spot the flaws in Elmyr de Hory's rendition of Modigliani's "Portrait of a Woman," the errors in Han van Meegeren's copy of Vermeer's "Head of Christ," and the mistakes in John Myatt's likeness of van Gogh's "Landscape Near Auvers,' among others. Also included are original works by such modern masters as Henri Matisse, Charles Courtney Curran Paul Signac, and others, shown alongside their respective forgeries to test perceptions of authenticity.
