The Blue River is one of the last streams in Oklahoma that continues to flow from its natural source without man-made structures controlling its waters. The river sits atop the Arbuckle Simpson Aquifer, a source of drinking water for nearby inhabitants.

Winding its way throughout the southern region of Oklahoma, the Blue River invites guests to enjoy leisurely activities like camping, canoeing, kayaking and rafting. Longtime residents consider the river to be one of the state’s most beautiful, an area perfect for relaxation and meditation.

Fishing, of course, is one of the most popular activities at the Blue River. It’s one of the only bodies of water in the state in which trout can be found in the winter; in the summer, fly fishing for smallmouth bass is a popular pastime. Plus, every Veterans Day, the river is stocked with trout for the annual Blue River Trout Derby. Anglers from all across the country compete for cash prizes, awards and trophies amidst the picturesque Oklahoma landscape.
