The Wheeler District is a burgeoning urban neighborhood just west of the Boathouse District. Its main attraction is the historic Santa Monica Pier Ferris Wheel (purchased on eBay in 2008), which stands 100 feet above the south bank of the Oklahoma River and overlooks the downtown skyline.
Another popular attraction is a large white OKC sign, which is incredibly Instagrammable! The Wheeler Riverfront Plaza also offers hammocks, games, concessions, a seating area and goodies like t-shirts and prints. The Big Friendly, a school bus transformed into a craft beer bus, parks on-site from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. most Fridays and is set to soon have a permanent taproom and brewery. The premier cycling festival, The Wheeler Crit, takes place every Tuesday from March to August.
Please check the Wheeler Ferris Wheel's website for current hours of operation. Single rides are $6, a day pass is $10, a season pass is $20 and kids aged three and under ride for free. For updates and more info, follow @WheelerWheelOKC on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
We’re so excited to see the Wheeler District grow! 2019 welcomed the first residents to call OKC’s next great urban neighborhood home, and plans to grow surrounding shops and community-focused public spaces are underway.
